HOW IT WORKS
1. Get your standing reach measured.
Standing flat-footed in the same shoes you will wear for testing, reach as high as possible with one arm. Our officials will ensure every athlete is measured properly and consistently.
2. Test your Standing Vertical Jump
Without taking any steps, jump and touch as high as possible on the Vert Trainer.
3. Test your Max Vertical Jump
Using a running approach, jump and touch as high as possible on the Vert Trainer.
4. Get your official results
Find out your Standing and Max Verticals, Vertical Jump Level, age-division and overall rankings, and whether you set a new PR.

FAQ
Can spectators come and watch? How much are tickets?
Yes. Tickets are free for spectators! Invite everyone you know!
How are age divisions determined?
Age divisions are based on your age as of November 14, 2026. Planned divisions for both men and women are 12–14, 15–17, 18–29, 30–39, 40–49, and 50+. Age divisions may be adjusted or combined based on participation.
How will testing work?
Each athlete will have a dedicated Vert Trainer and an official who will verify and record all jumps. Athletes will have a maximum of 30 minutes to complete both tests. Standing Vertical is completed first, followed by Max Vertical. Athletes may decide how to allocate their 30-minute session between the two tests. Once an athlete begins Max Vertical testing, their Standing Vertical test is complete and they may not return to it.
Do I need to participate in both vertical jump tests?
The Vert Open includes both Standing Vertical and Max Vertical, and athletes are expected to participate in both tests. Standing Vertical is completed first, followed by Max Vertical. If you are unable to participate in one of the tests, any valid result from the other test will still count toward the official results and rankings. The registration fee remains the same.
How is standing reach measured?
Standing flat-footed in the same shoes you will wear for testing, reach as high as possible with the arm and hand you will use to touch the Vert Trainer targets. Our officials will ensure every athlete is measured properly and consistently.
How will Vertical jumps be measured?
Your highest touch on the Vert Trainer compared to your standing reach will be used to calculate your vertical jump for both tests. For example, an athlete with a standing reach of 90" and highest touch on standing vertical of 110" and highest touch on max vertical of 116", would have these results:
Standing Vertical = 20" (110" - 90" = 20")
Max Vertical = 26" (116" - 90" = 26")
What if I touch higher than the bottom of the bell or foam target?
Similar to high jump and pole vault, where athletes receive credit for the height of the bar, athletes receive credit for the official height of the bell or foam target they touch—not the estimated height of their hand above the target.
How much time will athletes have to warm-up?
Athletes should complete a full warm-up before their scheduled testing session. There is no dedicated warm-up time during your testing session. Once your session begins, the 30-minute time limit applies.
What type of shoes should I wear?
Wear whatever athletic shoes you jump best in. Basketball or volleyball shoes that you have worn and jumped in before will be the best option for most athletes. No cleats or footwear that would damage the wood courts are allowed.
You must wear the same shoes for your standing reach measurement and both vertical jump tests.
When will I receive my testing time and how early should I arrive?
Testing times will be provided no later than 3 days before the event. Athletes should arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled testing time to check in, have their standing reach measured, and complete their warm-up. Testing sessions will begin on time, so please be ready to jump when your session starts.
What happens if I arrive late for my testing session?
Testing sessions begin promptly at the scheduled time. Athletes who arrive late may have less time available for testing and are not guaranteed a later testing session.
Can I film my testing session?
Yes! Athletes and spectators may film from designated areas as long as cameras and tripods do not interfere with participants or testing. Photographers and camera operators will not be permitted on the testing court except for authorized event media.
Are there any prizes or awards?
Absolutely! Athletes can earn recognition for achieving a Vertical Jump Level, winning their age division, or becoming the Overall Standing Vertical or Max Vertical Champion. Every participant will also receive an official inaugural Vert Open T-shirt. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 4:30 pm.
Do I need to stay for the entire event?
No. Athletes will be assigned a specific testing time and only need to arrive early enough to check in and warm up before their session. You are welcome to stay and watch other athletes compete or return for the awards ceremony at approximately 4:30 pm. You do not need to be present at the awards ceremony to win.
If you are unable to attend the awards ceremony, you may pick up your Vertical Jump Level bands after completing your testing. Vertical Jump Level bands and age-division medals will not be mailed after the event. Overall Champion awards will be shipped to winners who are unable to attend the awards ceremony.
What is the cancellation / refund policy?
Registrations completed on or before September 30 may be cancelled for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Beginning October 1, all registrations are final and non-refundable. After the applicable refund period has ended, registrations may be transferred to another athlete through October 31.
