There are numerous exercises you can do with the Vert Trainer! And, so you may be wondering which ones to focus on. Here are some of our favorites!
Standing Vertical Jump
Without taking any steps, jump up and touch as high as you can on the Vert Trainer. This exercise is a good indication of your raw power.
1 Step Vertical Jump
Take just one step, and then jump and touch as high as you can on the Vert Trainer. You should be able to jump a little higher than your standing vertical jump by being able to use some additional momentum.
2 Step Vertical Jump
Take 2 steps and then jump and touch as high as you can on the Vert Trainer. The last 2 steps in your approach are the most important, so this one is extremely valuable to put a little more emphasis on and get really comfortable and skilled at. It will also translate well to sports, especially basketball and volleyball.
3 Step Vertical Jump
Once you've gotten really good at jumping from just 2 steps, it's time to add a third step. Working on jumping as high as possible from just 3 steps is one of the best exercises you can do and will translate well to full approach ("max vertical") jumps.
Full Approach Vertical Jump ("Max Vertical Jump")
First, figure out how many steps on your approach will result in jumping your highest. If you have a Vert Trainer, this will be fun and easy to determine! Experiment with 4 steps, 5 steps, and so on. For most athletes, 5-6 steps are all that is needed to jump your absolute highest.
Vertical Jumps off 1 Foot
Don't forget to practice your 1-foot jumps! Or, if you usually jump off one foot, make sure to also practice jumping off 2 feet.
Vertical Jumps Using Your Non-Dominant Plant
For basketball players in particular, there is tremendous value in working on your vertical jump using your non-dominant plant. This will help you become a better overall athlete and versatile player being able to jump, dunk, block shots, defend, etc from any approach or take-off angle.
Depth Jumps
This is my personal favorite. You will need to experiment with the height of the box or bench you jump off. The idea is to jump from a height that maximizes your jump off the floor. If you have a Vert Trainer, this will be fun and easy to figure out! Start with a low box (for example 6-12") and measure the height of your jumps. Over time as you get better, raise the height of the box you jump off.
